Alberto Del Rio: WWE Contract Clarification Following AAA Takeover (WWE News)
Latest on Alberto Del Rio's WWE/AAA status following contract signing reports.

WWE reportedly "re-signing" Alberto Del Rio is, like everything else surrounding the promotion's AAA buyout, a developing situation - and doesn't mean the controversial 47-year-old is truly back on the WWE roster.
Ernesto Ocampo of Super Luchas reported earlier this week that Del Rio was among eight AAA wrestlers who, in his words, "already signed a contract with WWE."
Ocampo tweeted:
Los luchadores de #AAA que ya firmaron contrato con #WWE son
— Alberto del Río
— Hijo de Dr. Wagner
— Hijo del Vikingo
— La Parka
— La Hiedra
— Lady Flammer
— Lady Maravilla
— Niño Hamburguesa— Ernesto Ocampo (@ocampoxlaw) May 5, 2025
Later, the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer corroborated that these were new contracts with WWE rather than WWE assuming existing AAA deals. Ocampo, meanwhile, added that those signed were "not expected to take part in events in the United States," and were instead "meant to integrate AAA's roster in Mexico." A few AAA wrestlers may appear in NXT crossovers, however.
WWE's purchase of AAA was formally announced during WrestleMania 41's first night on Saturday, 18 April. As Del Rio currently reigns as AAA's Mega Champion, it stands to reason that he would be retained as part of the deal, though his controversial past makes him a persona non grata for many a WWE fan.
Amongst other concerns, Alberto Del Rio was arrested in May 2020 and charged with one count of sexual assault and one of assault causing bodily harm against his then-girlfriend. He was released on a $50,000 bail, then indicted by a grand jury on aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault charges that October, though the charges were ultimately dropped in December 2021.
