All 21 NXT-To-WWE Call-Ups - Ranked From Worst to Best
13. The Vaudevillains
1209021Generally, NXT call-ups get one of two debut types.
There's the shocker, wherein someone shows up out of nowhere to do something big, like answer an open challenge or interfere in a match. There's also the foreshadowed debut, where the character is hyped for a few weeks before they actually show up.
The Vaudevillains’ main roster was right between these extremes. On Raw, the announce team kind of offhandedly said, “Hey, these guys are a thing, check them out on SmackDown if you care".
You'd think that a team as high-concept as the ‘Villains would merit a series of explanatory vignettes, but no such luck. We’re getting weeks upon weeks of Primo Colón talking about Caribbean flora, but no, let's just throw these old-timey strongmen directly out onto the USA Network with zero context.
Still, Gotch and English got a strong win over their old rivals, the Lucha Dragons. That's all good, but I still worry that the unique charisma and polished tag work that are the ‘Villains’ bread and butter may go unnoticed by casual fans who are just wondering what the deal is with the mustaches.
