The Ascension In Line To Win WWE Tag Team Titles?

The tag team scene is heating up in WWE as current champs The Usos are dealing with the intimidating Wyatt Family duo of Luke Harper & Erick Rowan. This past week on Raw, Harper & Rowan beat The Usos in a non-title match, which is a familiar finish that WWE does to set up title matches. It's a finish that frustrates a lot of fans because champions lose non-title matches so often, but we all know why they do it. A report from PWInsider notes that while Harper & Rowan will likely get a tag title match possibly at Money in the Bank on June 29, they might not end up as the tag team champions. Part of that reason may be because WWE really wants to establish The Usos as their long term babyface champions. They're very popular with the fans, so if they have a really long title reign that lasts six months or more then they will cement themselves as the focus of the tag division. It was also mentioned that WWE may not put the titles on Rowan & Harper because they have another heel tag team in mind to feud with The Usos over the long term. That team is The Ascension, who are the NXT Tag Team Champions comprised of Konnor (who you might remember as Conor O'Brian on NXT years ago) and Viktor. What WWE needs to do is continue to build up teams to fortify the tag division. The Usos are popular with the fans, Harper & Rowan are very good together, The Ascension will fit in well and Rybaxel is doing a good job too. Three of those teams are heels, though. They will need another four or five permanent teams to really make the division feel special again. There was definitely progress made in the tag division in the second half of 2013, but then it slowed down a bit earlier this year. With The Usos firmly in place as the tag champs and The Ascension set to start on the main roster soon they have the foundation to build to something special. The final point worth nothing is that while creative may not want to put the tag titles on Harper & Rowan right now, they may change their mind. This is WWE, after all. Plans are always changing. That's about the only guarantee that there is.
