Assessing The Futures Of 10 WWE Stars Who Didn't Make The Royal Rumble 2021 Cut

4. Murphy

Murphy has come full circle. The former NXT Tag Team Champion used to be the Best Kept Secret in WWE but that couldn't last forever, and a quality feud with Aleister Black and a fun stint on the main roster alongside Seth Rollins seemed to be building the Aussie up for bigger things. Alas, the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion is a secret once more.

He hasn't had a televised match since the beginning of December. How is that possible? Sure, he's not alone in being missing in action, but Murphy has 'Royal Rumble Iron Man' written all over him, the sort of performer who could quite easily force himself into the eyes and ears of the audience through a good 35-minute Rumble showing. Alas, he was nowhere to be seen.

It is difficult to judge what the future holds for Murphy. Still only 32, there is plenty of time for the Best Kept Secret to come again. His partnership and feud with Rollins hasn't defined his career and WWE obviously had enough faith in him as a character to involve him with the Mysterios. One can only hope that WWE remembers what it has waiting in the wings.

Don't hold your breath.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
