Backstage Update On Jerry Lawler's WWE Commentary Return

What does the future hold for the returning announcer?

Yesterday saw WWE announce big change to their commentary lineups, with the team of Renee Young, Michael Cole, and Corey Graves sent from Raw to SmackDown, and Vic Joseph, Dio Madden, and Jerry 'The King' Lawler replacing them.

It's a drastic lineup change, particularly as Madden has only worked as a televised announcer for a handful of weeks and Joseph's experience is largely limited to 205 Live. Lawler, meanwhile, had been phased out years ago, with WWE typically only calling on him for pay-per-view Kickoff Shows.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it looks like his comeback could be a temporary move.

This is according to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, who writes that WWE don't plan on keeping Lawler in the chair for long and are currently looking at other options for the Raw announce team, though there's no word on who, specifically, might eventually replace him.

Byron Saxton and Tom Phillips were both removed from their old main roster announcing positions yesterday. Saxton has played the "third man" role for a while now and could conceivably step in, but it's not like WWE are short of potential options. Their non-wrestling talent pool is stacked.
