Backstage Update On WWE's Plans For Brock Lesnar

Here's what WWE was in store for Brock Lesnar following his SummerSlam 2021 return.

Brock Lesnar is now listed as babyface on the WWE SmackDown roster, reports PWInsider's Mike Johnson.

This reflects how the 44-year-old was presented in his surprise return at SummerSlam 2021 last weekend, when Lesnar gatecrashed Roman Reigns' post-match celebration after his win over John Cena, confronting the Universal Champion and manager Paul Heyman.

Brock will now be presented as a face for the first time since his original WWE run in the early 2000s. He has been firmly on the villainous side since returning in 2012, becoming the company's end of level boss in feuds with the likes of John Cena, The Undertaker, and other notable good guys.

As covered earlier, Lesnar's new WWE contract is for approximately a year-and-a-half with Brock currently scheduled to work eight matches in this period. This could change pending further negotiations, though.

SummerSlam 2021 was the first time Brock had been seen in WWE since April 2020, when he put Drew McIntyre over as WWE Champion at WrestleMania 37. This was his longest period away from the company since his first big break between 2004 and 2012. For now, he looks set to clash with Reigns for the Universal Title.
