John Cena has stated that hair transplant surgery "completely changed the course" of his life.

The 17-time WWE World Champion opened up on several topics for PEOPLE recently, including his once-impending baldness. Cena revealed that he underwent transplant surgery in November 2024, having been pushed towards it by signs saying "The bald John Cena," then admitted that he wished he'd done it "10 years ago."

"I saw their signs that said ‘The bald John Cena,’” the 48-year-old said. “They pushed me into going to see what my options were. I now have a routine: red-light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, shampoo, conditioner — and I also got a hair transplant last November. I hate the fact that if there wasn’t so much shame around it, I’d have gotten it done 10 years ago. I thought I was alone, but seven or eight out of 10 [men] suffer from thinning or baldness."

Cena's surgery came several months after CM Punk labelled John and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson "bald frauds" on an episode of Raw, following Cena's high-profile heel turn at Elimination Chamber 2025. Perhaps the surgery's effects weren't obvious enough at the time.

“If somebody’s going to sweat me for that, I don’t think there’s any shame in that,” Cena told PEOPLE. “It completely changed the course of my life.”

He added: "A different hairstyle can identify a part that can get me more work, do the thing I love to do."

Cena, now blacklisted from the Bald Community (exclusive!), had not gone bald gracefully in WWE, where he was often seen desperately swiping his hair across his scalp at times when his bald spot was on display. WrestleMania XL's second night may be the most famous example of this, during Cena's interference in the Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns main event.

Now, Cena need not worry about such things.

John Cena is fresh off losing the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2025.
