WWE attempted to capitalise on the momentum they had built with the Cruiserweight Classic by introducing the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, complete with its own division, quickly followed by its own weekly Network broadcast. Leading this division out of its infancy proved to be too tricky for TJ Perkins, Brian Kendrick, or Rich Swann. Luckily, WWE had a bitter, sidelined Cruiserweight of immense talent who already held a strong connection with the crowd. With the turn of a heel, the first real Cruiserweight Champion ascended the throne.

Neville has had to legitimise a brand new division, while helping the brand new competitors get over with the WWE Universe. Wrestlers like Akira Tozawa, Noam Dar, and Jack Gallagher were all signed to the WWE under the notion that the Cruiserweight division would succeed. Ironically, it was the man who didn't even compete in the CWC who took the wheel and steadied the ship. Reinventing himself as a very convincing scumbag heel, Neville built his new character around being a dominant Cruiserweight Champion.

Where it once felt like a mere undercard belt, it now feels as though the man who carries it truly is the best Cruiserweight wrestler in the world. That is Neville's doing.
