Best And Worst WWE Title Reigns Of 2017 (So Far)

2. Kevin Owens (WWE United States Champion)

Kevin Owens does not need the United States Championship to be successful. The former Universal Champion has solidified his place near the top of the WWE tree. In spite of this, KO has completely reinvented his heel persona based around his US Title win.

It is proving to be a shining example of how to make a mid-card title relevant. Remember the ire that Roman Reigns drew when he captured the US Title but barely even acknowledged it? Owens has taken the completely opposite trajectory. Dubbing himself 'The Face of America', Owens is essentially tying his hugely popular character to the championship he possesses. Those challenging for his title are now challenging Owens' himself, meaning every contest has an added layer of depth.

This could be read as a shrewd move by the wily Owens. Ever the opportunist, KO may be observing the tumultuous state of the WWE Championship and thinking that SmackDown's top-heel role is up for grabs. At 'Mania, Payback, and Backlash, Owens' US Title matches have all delivered leagues above the WWE Championship matches.

Kevin Owens has undoubtedly gone all-in on the US Championship. With the mess that the WWE Championship is in, Owens' US Title could very well be the top belt on SDL.
