Best Of WWE European Title

William Regal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPL35FhdQbw A true European champion in every sense of the word. William Regal became only the second ever European to win the belt when he beat Al Snow on Raw on October 16th 2000. Snow had been a relatively entertaining champion himself, taking what D'Lo Brown did and going even further. Not only did Al come to the ring announced from a different place each time, but he also had a modified entrance theme and music to match his new hometowns. On top of this he would carry items from each country on the way to the ring. On this night, Al mocked William by representing Regal's home nation. This proved to be a bad idea, when William took out his frustration on Al, and won his first European Championship. Regal was the very personification of the European style of wrestling, and although the belt was never meant to be that style, he represented his home continent well. His first title reign lasted 3 months, including an enjoyable series with both Holly cousins and a match against "Naked" Mideon that try as I might, I can't scrub from my memory. He was a two time champion by the time Test took the title from him in early 2001. A year later, he beat DDP for the title again just after Wrestlemania, and remained the champion into the brand extension, making the European Title exclusive to Monday night Raw. In April, he lost the title to Spike Dudley when one of his trademark devious tricks backfired on him. Knowing that he was likely to be searched for his set of brass knuckles, Regal pretended to drop them on the way into the ring. While the referee was distracted with that pair, he stashed another set behind the top turnbuckle pad. Unfortunately for Regal, while he dealt with the referee, Spike charged the ring, procured the knuckles and decked Regal all before the bell even rang. 3 Seconds later and Spike had won the European title. It wasn't long lived, but a nice moment for Spike nonetheless. Regal won the title back a month later, but only for a short while himself before dropping it to Jeff Hardy just before the belt was put out to pasture for good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1BsQN922PI
