Best Of WWE European Title

The Unification

After the acquiring of WCW and its title belts, the WWE featured all belts from both companies on their programming. Soon after the Invasion angle had run its course, they started to streamline the product and started to unify the similar title belts. Being of secondary importance, the title's time was up. It was decided that European champion Jeff Hardy's belt being retired for good and unified with the Intercontinental title. And it couldn't have bowed out in a better way. RVD and Jeff Hardy faced off in a ladder match, and put on a great match to give the European title the send off it deserved. RVD took the win, when he climbed the ladder after drilling Hardy with a splash from atop the ladder. It was a fitting end for a title that had (for the most part) been reserved for the younger, up and coming WWE stars. While never as prestigious as the Intercontinental Title, still quite a few European champions went onto win a major world title. Though retired more than a decade ago now, the European title will be remembered for the moments outlined here and others from other champions like Matt Hardy, the Hurricane and Test. There's no reason why it couldn't return as a lower card incentive for talent looking to make a name for themselves. Maybe featuring as a title belt exclusive to Superstars or Main Event. That however, remains highly unlikely and the European title will no doubt remain defunct and nothing more than a collection of fairly decent memories.
