Beyond The Mat - What Happened Next?

8. Michael Modest

Michael Modest was the more accomplished of the two wrestlers coming up from APW who WWE took a look at. Though his 'try out' with WWE in the film was ultimately unsuccessful, he was eventually signed twice to WCW. Unfortunately, the company's backstage wranglings worked to his detriment.

After being hired by Kevin Sullivan, Bob Mould, and Ed Ferrera, he was then let go when Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo took over, having been told that his contract hadn't 'finished processing'. Realising they'd missed a trick by not giving the talented wrestler a job, he was then rehired by Bischoff and Terry Taylor but, in a cruel twist of fate, didn't have a chance to make an impression before WCW folded. Once WWE took over the company, Modest was again released.

Undeterred, he would go on to have a long and varied career in professional wrestling and still works in the business to this day. Aside from his time in APW and his stints in WWE and WCW, Modest would go on to perform across the world for a plethora of promotions including Stampede, Ring of Honor, and five years in Japan for Pro Wrestling Noah.

After a further five years in Las Vegas as head trainer and wrestling for Future Stars of Wrestling, Modest now resides once again in California and wrestled twice for APW in 2017. He is active on social media and still loves the business. Kevin Mahon from the Attitude Era Podcast has stated that if Michael Modest was coming up in today's wrestling landscape, he'd be one of the stars of NXT, making a name for himself with other talented technicians more suited to his style than the Attitude Era was.
