Matt Hyson, better known as Spike Dudley, could be considered the most unlikely success from the 'Beyond the Mat' cast. Originally planned to be one of the main wrestlers featured, Dudley was eventually sidelined after signing an exclusive deal with ECW once filming began. Another wrestler who originally came from the APW stable, he would spend six years with Paul Heyman's promotion before following the Dudley Boys to WWE in 2001.

Here Dudley would go on to great success, becoming a fan favourite and winning several belts in the process. Portrayed as the perennial underdog and often simply accompanying the Dudley Boys to the ring, Spike would win the Cruiserweight, European, and Hardcore single titles as well as the Tag Team titles with Tazz while with the WWE.

His part in 'Beyond The Mat', though reduced to a cameo, was memorable for the school teacher turned wrestler reciting Shakespeare as blood poured down his face. After leaving the WWE in 2005, he would continue to wrestle for a further ten years before changing his profession and becoming a financial planner in his native Rhode Island.
