With Jeff Hardy confirmed to be out of action for the better part of nine months thanks to another nasty knee injury, tag partner and brother Matt could be set for a quick gimmick update.

The pair vacated the SmackDown Tag Team Championships on this past Tuesday's episode of the show, as the younger Hardy confirmed he would be consigned to the shelf for until late this year at the earliest - leaving Matt rudderless.

On Friday's edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez repeated rumours that the eldest brother could introduce the 'Big Money Matt' character from his time in Impact.

The Observer's Dave Meltzer recently wrote that Matt had been pushing to play a dissociative identity disorder gimmick not dissimilar to Mick Foley's, in which he'd portray all his previous characters simultaneously, including Broken/Woken Matt and Version 1.

At the start of March, Hardy posted a video to his personal YouTube channel in which he adopted the role of Big Money Matt, with the apparent objective of introducing the character to fans unfamiliar. Responding to a question on Twitter last night, Hardy stated he is looking to go solo at present - but could not be drawn on the manner of his singles run:

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
