6. Evolution 2.0

The events leading up to the now infamous ‘Festival of Friendship’ heavily imply some involvement from the Cerebral Assassin. Shortly before Jericho took to the ring to declare his undying love for Owens, Triple H accosted the Prizefighter, suggesting they speak in private.

Meanwhile, Samoa Joe is acting as Triple H’s enforcer in his ongoing vendetta against Seth Rollins. Does this seem like it’s leading to something?

Both Owens and Joe are former NXT champions who were (legitimately) given extensive opportunities in WWE by Triple H. Both men possess body types that normally wouldn’t be associated with a standard ‘WWE Guy’. Both men achieved great success carrying other companies before they came to WWE. Without labouring the point, both Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe have a lot in common, and their strings are currently being pulled by the second most powerful man in sports entertainment.

This doesn’t necessarily mean Triple H will or even should form ‘Evolution 2.0’ - but a stable made up of like-minded NXT stalwarts, led by The Game, would make for some interesting TV. Best of all, the story has its roots in reality.

If you throw a soon-to-be returning Finn Bálor into the mix – another NXT favourite with a history in villainous stables – you’ve got the recipe for wrestling gold. Does Finn turn heel and side with the man who secured him his job, or does he team up with Rollins, the person who put him on the shelf, but recently expressed remorse about the whole ordeal?
