Better late than never.
When Aleister Black injured his groin and was removed from the NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4 card, it was a real disappointment.
The planned match of Black taking on Johnny Gargano and Tommasso Ciampa for Ciampa's NXT Championship was in ruins, and hastily changed to a Last Man Standing match between Gargano and Ciampa. Whilst this match was good, we all knew that Black would have definitely added something special to the mix. Luckily, now that Black is back, we may get the chance to finally see this match.
Black returned to NXT with a vengeance, not just against Ciampa for taking his title, but against Johnny for the kayfabe attack that took him out of Brooklyn. The narrative threads are all still there for all three men and, with the right build, the triple threat match could happen - and it will be even better than it was going to be at Brooklyn.
Black's desire for revenge, Johnny's shades of grey character, Ciampa's twisted heel persona, of all these little nuances would come together in a truly epic match in New Jersey, not least because the fans would have been waiting nearly six months to get it.
Who knows, maybe this is how you start a heel #DIY, with Johnny turning on Black in the match to help Ciampa retain the title. There are so many possibilities with this match that it practically has to happen, so why not let it happen on the biggest stage of them all?
