Three months after this match, Hart was advised to never wrestle again, owed to the lingering effects of a concussion suffered at Starrcade. Hart would say of the match with Benoit that he, "knew that this would be my last beautiful moment in the ring," and it almost certainly had to be. The match was being dedicated to Owen's memory.

The match took place in the same arena where Owen had perished little more than four months earlier, and Bret was determined to go out there with fellow Dungeon product Benoit and do Owen proud. Hart said he could sense his brother's presence that night, and that he would be watching.

The match started out slowly, old school wrestling shoving aside the presiding "Crash TV" formula in order to take center stage. Hart and Benoit pieced together a beauty, mixing in some little nods to Owen (like Benoit countering a tilt-a-whirl into a Tombstone), as well as some submission reversals. The match itself outsizes conventional measurements - in Bret's eyes, it was exactly what it was supposed to be, and everything it needed to be.
