Brock Lesnar: 5 Awesome WWE Matches And 5 That Sucked

1. Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle (Smackdown 2003)

You can take your pick of any of the great matches these two had in 2003, but ours is their legendary 60 minute Iron Man match from the September 18th episode of Smackdown. Even the biggest fans would admit that watching one match for a full hour requires a certain amount of focus and patience. But this match is superbly well-paced. Going in a completely different direction than many expected, Brock got himself intentionally DQ'd right at the beginning of the match, awarding Angle the first point. He did so by viciously attacking Angle with a steel chair, physically weakening him just minutes into the match and making him easy pickings. By sacrificing the first fall, Brock was able to sufficiently weaken Angle to go up 3 falls to 1 within the first twenty minutes. From there the match told a gripping story of Angle desperately trying to catch up. And every time he gained momentum, Brock would shut him down. Even when Angle managed to score two falls, Brock just countered and stole two more, going up 5 to 3 with less than ten minutes left. Fans were absolutely hooked! Working the ankle as only Kurt Angle can, he manged to make Brock tap out one more time for his fourth fall. It would be his last. When he applied the Angle Lock during the final minute, fans went wild, expecting Brock to tap out and end the match 5-5. But there would be no overtime. Fans counted down to the very last second as Brock screamed in agony (once again Brock sold it with a vengeance), but he did not tap. Both men wrestled for all they were worth and told a story that kept fans guessing until the last second, quite literally. Brock also added a new layer to his character. His use of the chair and systematic destruction of Angle, made him an intelligent strategist, rather than just a mindless powerhouse. Using everything from DQ's to count outs and stealing Angles finisher made every fall feel fresh as well. It was truly a masterclass in professional wrestling and in our opinion the best match of Brock Lesnars career. Of course, it hasn't always been as pretty as that. As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG. I may have a problem! But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
