Brock Lesnar: 5 Awesome WWE Matches And 5 That Sucked

4. Brock Lesnar Vs Triple H (WrestleMania 29)

It's hard to put a finger on exactly why this match failed to live up to expectations. The biggest problem though, was the crowd. They simply did not buy into this match at all. The build up going into the match was excellent, with Lesnar attacking Vince McMahon, and Paul Heyman tricking Triple H into signing a contract for the match without revealing the stipulations. Paul Heyman could sell a crowd on a Great Khali match if he wanted to. The wrestlers did everything right. The fans did not respond. The same fans who would make the following nights Raw one of the craziest in recent memory, were uncharacteristically silent. Perhaps they were exhausted from the superior Undertaker vs CM Punk match (or the first three hours of the four hour show). Perhaps they wanted to see fresh young talent in a high profile spot, instead of two more part timers (The Rock was already headlining this event). The match was certainly overbooked. In addition to the No Holds Barred stipulation, Triple H's career was on the line. Given the near year long history between the two men and the emotional level of Brock's most recent assault on Triple H's family, one wonders in hindsight why they bothered with the retirement stipulation. They already had a solid story going into this match. Maybe the fans were silent because none of them believed Triple H would really retire. Having Shawn Michaels return just to be in Triple H's corner also felt like overkill. There was simply too much going on. As such, the fans weren't pulled into the match until the admittedly gripping finishing sequence, and what should have been the match of the night, just fell flat. At least their cage match the next month made up for it.

As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG. I may have a problem! But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
