Cyndi Lauper and the wacky world of professional wrestling go way back, and Roddy Piper was there from the get-go. Lauper was an integral part of the Rock 'n' Wrestling Collection, the embracing of mainstream culture that saw Vince McMahon's travelling roadshow go nationwide. The relationship worked both ways, of course, and Lauper was able to call upon a motley crew of characters from pro wrestling to embellish her chaotic persona. Piper starred in the video for 'The Goonies R Good Enough' alongside Captain Lou Albano and plenty more wrestling wackos.

Lauper and Piper had great chemistry on-screen, working closely together in the build to that fabled first WrestleMania, although Lauper featured alongside Wendi Richter at that show. It has been argued that Lauper's famous 1984 appearance on Piper's Pit kickstarted the WWE we know (and, erm, love) today. You don't tell the story of Roddy Piper without giving that famous time some shine.

The COVID-19 pandemic might have stopped GLOW from making it to a fourth series but Alison Brie has shown that she has the chops to bring together that most magnificent of combinations; outlandish 1980's style and the wackier side of professional wrestling.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
