Casting WWE Montreal Screwjob Movie

7. Clark Gregg - Earl Hebner

Referee Earl Hebner's exact involvement in the Screwjob still remains murky to this day: Bret claims he swore on his kids' lives that nothing fishy was going to happen, while Hebner insists he was only informed of the new match finish mere minutes before it concluded, and others attest he was told earlier in the day.

Whatever the truth, Hebner's role in that night's fateful events made him a divisive figure for the remainder of his WWE tenure. The actor playing him needs to bring a subdued yet animated quality to the table, and not be so famous that they'd distract from the more effusive major roles.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Clark Gregg feels right here. He's a little older than Hebner was at the time but he can certainly pass for younger, and he's proven he can play both dramatic and comedic roles equally well, so whatever the movie's tone would end up being, he'd surely rise to the occasion.
