Charlotte Flair has revealed that she thought she was "failing at [her] job" and "failing in [her] personal life" before launching a return to WWE to win February's 2025 women's Royal Rumble match. That victory was a personally satisfying moment for Charlotte, but she was also mindful of news breaking about her divorce from fellow company star Andrade in the media.

News surfaced that Flair had filed for divorce from Andrade in June 2024 shortly after she returned to WWE action at the Rumble then appeared on the following episode of flagship show Raw. Describing that feeling, Charlotte told Sherri Shepherd: "Everything that I had been scared of hit that day".

She'd missed 2024 whilst recovering from a torn trio of ACL, MCL, and meniscus. In addition to dealing with that physical pain and the rehab that came with it, Flair's personal life was falling apart. So, she views her latest comeback less as a "redemption story" for the Charlotte Flair character and more for the woman behind it.

However, Flair is keenly aware that pro wrestling fans don't view her that way. Initially, it seemed like WWE boss Triple H planned to make Charlotte the babyface of the piece opposite breakout star Tiffany Stratton, but that was always going to be rejected. She's since slid into more of an entitled heel role ahead of the pair's clash over Stratton's Women's Title at WrestleMania 41 later this month.

Charlotte is relishing the chance to wrestle on a grand stage again after suffering through so much private turmoil away from the ring.

Charlotte Knew People Would Compare Divorces To Ric Flair's Past

One of Charlotte's biggest fears once news of her latest divorce broke was that people would immediately draw comparisons to the past marriages of her father Ric. That was an embarrassing thought for the multi-time Women's Champion, and it forced her to try and hide personal business from the world. This is obviously very difficult when you're such a public figure.

Flair knows that "everyone has an opinion even if they don’t know the facts". Countless posts hit social media streams as soon as word spread about her divorce from Andrade, and Charlotte was right - people did compare her failed marriages to Ric's. Her dad has been married four times. For the record, his fifth union with Wendy Barlow (known as 'Fifi' in WCW) was never legally binding before they separated in September 2024.

Ric's love life has been on the lips of wrestling fans for decades, which is something Charlotte was mindful of. Her split from Andrade marks her third divorce.

Speaking to Shepherd, Flair said one of the biggest mental hurdles for her was realising that "it’s ok not to be ok; that’s what I learned". Continuing, she added: "It’s ok to take a moment, take a breather. To start over".
