Well, if Punk wasn't too excited with the idea of putting over a 44 year old Triple H, perhaps he'd be interested in doing the honors for a 28 year old. Right now, Roman Reigns appears to be on the track to superstardom. Since his debut, he's gained confidence on the mic and become a much better worker. It's not hard to imagine him as a WrestleMania main-eventer within the next couple of years. Management is solidly behind him, and unlike other muscle bound men like Ryback and Big E, the fans seem to have taken a liking to him organically. Basically, Punk has a lot of "stock" built up in his character. He's been a big star the past few years, as has battled some of the biggest names in the business like Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker and The Rock. It would be a shame for him to leave the company without putting anyone over. It would be a missed opportunity. There are many wrestlers on the roster who would gain a lot from beating Punk cleanly. But not many of them would make sense. And for the most part, fans would reject it. The other members of The Shield like Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins are incredibly talented, but don't quite yet seem ready for a starring role. Reigns appears to be ready to break out on his own at any time. After his fantastic performance at the Royal Rumble, WWE would be wise to keep the momentum going. A big singles win against Punk could be exactly what he needs to help him cement his spot as a top star. CM Punk seems to have a deep respect for the business. He is fully aware of the "time honored tradition" of losing to someone on your way out. Steve Austin did it for The Rock in his last match, The Rock did it for Cena, Ric Flair did it for Shawn Michaels, and Michaels did it for Undertaker. If Punk is only staying for a short time before leaving the business for good, it would be much better off if he helped create a new star, or to further elevate an already established one before saying goodbye.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
