Was there ever any doubt? This promo is not only the greatest moment in CM Punks career, but arguably the greatest promo period. Punk came out in a Stone Cold shirt (an idol of his and a man famous for his own 3:16 pipebomb), and cost John Cena a tables match against R-Truth before he sat down cross-legged on the entrance ramp and on June 27, 2011 the wrestling world stood still. Most people forget that CM Punk was a heel at the time he cut this famous promo, and despite the popularity his pipebomb brought him, if you really look at what he said its not exactly face material. Punk ripped into management and the McMahon family (who were face at the time), singling out John Laurinaitis as a douchebag yes man and Vince McMahon as being too old to run the company. He called John Cena out on kissing the ass of those higher than him, and attacked The Rock for doing the same and for being in the main event of WrestleMania instead of Punk. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xzzvzo_cm-pipe-bomb-on-wwe_sport The truth is he should have been booed, WWE wanted fans to react negatively and label Punk as jealous and subordinate, but fans were so disenfranchised with WWE at the time (especially after the dreadful Capitol Punishment PPV) that they were hanging on to Punks every word. CM Punk became the rebel, the anti-establishment character that Stone Cold Steve Austin once made famous and the fans supported him in his quest for change. Despite even being criticised by Punk himself, fans supported him from that day in full force, and WWE finally listened to the voiceless and pushed Punk as one of their biggest stars. It is a true sign of an excellent talker if they can manipulate the crowd to their every whim and that is exactly what Punk did here. CM Punks pipebomb is recognised as the defining shift in WWE programming, signalling the end of the PG era and beginning of the Reality era. It injected some much needed excitement, controversy and unpredictability that WWE sorely lacked at the time. Punk would go on to defeat John Cena for the WWE Championship in his hometown and walk out with the title in one of the most memorable moments in recent history.
