CM Punk's WWE Matches In Chicago Ranked From Worst To Best
3. CM Punk Vs. Chris Jericho - Chicago Street Fight, WWE Championship (Extreme Rules 2012)
Less than a year after the huge success that was Money in the Bank 2011 (which you know we'll get to in a second), WWE was bringing one of their pay-per-view extravaganzas back to Chicago with Extreme Rules.
Unlike last time, the hometown hero had gone from the hunter to the hunted, defending his WWE Championship against Chris Jericho in a rematch from that year's WrestleMania XXVIII, now with the added Chicago Street Fight stipulation to it. Also unlike last time, the focus was not on the 'Straight Edge Superstar'. That distinction went to John Cena's main event bloodbath with Brock Lesnar, who was returning to McMahon-land for the first time since his departure in 2004, fresh off an impressive run in UFC.
As expected, Punk and Jericho delivered a great championship bout with an exciting conclusion, one that would steal the show on most events. It certainly played a part in making Extreme Rules such an enjoyable pay-per-view, with their bout joining great company such as the aforementioned brutal Lesnar/Cena main event, but also an underrated two-out-of-three-falls match for the World Heavyweight Championship between Sheamus and Daniel Bryan.
However, as great as it was, it just wasn't the big story making the headlines coming out of this event, which prevents us from ranking it even higher. The same can't be said about this next entry...
