Cody’s reputation in the ring was never in doubt, his career is full of great matches from his runs with WWE, Bullet Club, Impact, and of course AEW, yet despite many matches sticking out as classics, many of his promos did not, until he challenged Chris Jericho.
On the run-up to Full Gear 2019 and a huge AEW title match against the promotion's inaugural champion, Rhodes delivered one of the best promos of his career. With tensions between the Elite and the Inner Circle reaching fever pitch, Rhodes and Jericho were about to face off in a huge match for the AEW championship and Jericho had been taunting Rhodes ahead of their clash, claiming that he could never live up to the legacy of his family name.
Interviewed in the ring by Tony Schiavone, Cody unleashed every emotion he could as he conveyed his desire to take the title from Le Champion. Resenting being referred to as an “entitled millennial bitch”. Rhodes shot back with a retort that went back through his history and ended with the killer line “This isn't about my dad! This isn't about the dead, it's about the living. It's about my mother! It's about my sister! It's about my wife! It's about the FOURTEEN YEARS IT TOOK ME TO GO FROM UNDESIRABLE TO UN-GODDAMN-DENIABLE! “
