3. The Brotherhood
The demise of The Rhodes Scholars led to a babyface turn for Cody Rhodes and a brief feud with The Authority's Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. Speaking up, he wanted the opportunity to prove himself. Unfortunately, that meant battling Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The loss cost him his job, necessitating the return of Goldust, who fought for his younger brother's honor.
He failed, setting up a scenario in which the brothers Rhodes would have one last opportunity to preserve not only their employment in WWE, but also that of their father Dusty.
At Battleground in October 2013, Rhodes and Goldust defeated Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in a show-stealing match that was rife with emotion and drama. The heartwarming reunion of the Rhodes family only helped make the moment that much more vivid.
Rhodes and Goldust would reign as tag champions, working some of the best tag team matches WWE had produced in years, primarily against The Shield. Unfortunately, their title reign would come to a screeching halt when they lost to the New Age Outlaws, back on television a decade after their primes.
The team faded into mediocrity, the result of teams like The Usos taking the spotlight as the lead babyface tandem on the roster.
