With WWE having announced earlier today that WWE Champion Drew McIntyre is in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19, a new report indicates that the wrestling business is in the midst of a major coronavirus outbreak.

From Fightful Select, talents across WWE, AEW and IMPACT Wrestling have all tested positive for COVID-19 coming out of the holiday season. While Fightful doesn’t give specifics, the outlet states that several matches and appearances have been cancelled across the three promotions.

WWE is said to have been expecting to see plentiful positive tests as a direct result of the holidays, although the company has been surprised at how relatively few positive results have come back.

As for AEW, this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite was recorded last week, meaning that Wednesday’s programming won’t be impacted by this purported outbreak. For IMPACT Wrestling, though, it could well be a very different matter.

IMPACT is due to tape several months’ worth of TV across this weekend and into next week - suggesting that any stars forced to quarantine right now could be absent from IMPACT television for quite some time.

Given how wrestlers from all three of WWE, AEW and IMPACT Wrestling have attended the same gatherings and parties in recent weeks, the wrestling business could be hit hard in the coming weeks and months due to how many talents and personnel have been in contact with one another.

Here’s hoping for a full and speedy recovery for all of those affected by this outbreak.
