Born out of that NXT concept, the original 'Nexus' faction hit a home run on the June 7th, 2010 episode of Monday Night Raw, attacking John Cena and laying waste to everyone in their path. During the segment, a fired-up Daniel Bryan did two things which ended up getting him sacked from the company.

First, he spat on Cena, before choking out ring announcer Justin Roberts with the man's own tie. Both acts were banned on WWE television, and Bryan was promptly released from his contract, all before shockingly returning just a few months later to battle his former stablemates at SummerSlam, in a truly convoluted series of events.

To his credit, Vince McMahon was the one who phoned Daniel Bryan personally to inform him that he was being let go from contract, because the WWE owner felt he had to make an example out of him for what he had done. In his own words, Bryan was cool with how upfront McMahon was with him, but felt the whole thing was stupid, because he had been told to be violent backstage by various agents, and hadn't been notified about the restrictions.
