Daniel Bryan's 10 Best Matches

4. Bryan Danielson vs. Naruki Doi (September 6, 2009)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkzSc8rPoK4 This match for Dragon Gate USA was Bryan's final independent pay per view performance before going off to join the WWE (for the first time). Dragon Gate, a Japanese promotion, was at the time still undergoing a transition to promoting themselves in the United States, and this was only their second show on U.S. soil. The event took place at Chicago's Congress Theatre and was dubbed Untouchable. For those unfamiliar with Naruki Doi, he had already built up quite the reputation worldwide by the age of 28. There was a legendary six man match for Ring Of Honor in 2006 that garnered him international attention (specifically winning the Wrestling Observer match of the year for 2006). Additionally, his work in Japan had earned him the reputation of Dragon Gate's top star. With Bryan about to take his talents to the WWE, this match up was highly anticipated knowing that he and Doi might never have a chance to work together in the ring again. The show with its highly hyped contest between Bryan and Doi was a success, helping Dragon Gate gain some footing in the U.S. independent market going forward. Following the event, Dave Meltzer even argued in his Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Bryan/Doi was superior to Undertaker/Michaels from WrestleMania 25 earlier in the year.
