Drew McIntyre Breaks WWE Protocol On Last Night's Raw

WWE's Scottish Warrior doesn't seem fazed about the recent 'no thigh slaps' rule.

Last night’s episode of WWE Raw saw Drew McIntyre officially announced to be challenging for Bobby Lashley’s WWE Championship at WrestleMania 37.

What you may have missed, though, is that, if recent reports are to be believed, the Scottish Warrior broke WWE protocol not once, but twice.

Of course, this month saw the news that WWE – well, specifically Vince McMahon – has banned thigh slaps when hitting kicks. This is something that’s been done for decades by many a wrestler when landing a kick, particularly a superkick, as a way to create a heavy sound that adds to the ‘impact’ of the move.

Where McIntyre comes into this, he put hand to thigh on the two occasions when he hit his patented Claymore Kick on Raw this week. First up, the two-time WWE Champion nailed The Miz with this move in the show’s opening hour, before then laying out current WWE Champion Bobby Lashley as this week’s red brand offering went off the air.

It had been reported that Drew hadn’t actually slapped his thigh for that first Claymore of the night, but going back to watch the footage shows that he actually did, albeit in a less impactful way than usual for the powerhouse Scot.
