WWE NXT's two Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournaments concluded at TakeOver: Vengeance Day last night, as MSK and Dakota Kai/Raquel Gonzalez took the men's and women's trophies respectively.

Kai and Gonzalez's triumph came first. Competing in the finals of the first women's competition ever, they overcame Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart, with Gonzalez scoring the decisive pinfall via powerbomb. The heel duo have now punched their ticket to face WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax at a later date, having defeated Aliyah and Jessi Kamea and Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter earlier in the competition.

MSK scored their tournament victory by overcoming the Grizzled Young Vets, Zack Gibson and James Drake. Nash Carter and Wes Lee triumphed in a spot-heavy, all-action bombfest, defined primarily by the clash of styles between the grit-and-grind GYV and MSK's adrenaline-first approach. Winning here guarantees them a shot at Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch's NXT Tag Team Championships.

Signed in December 2020, MSK have exploded onto the scene in WWE, benefitting from one of NXT's strongest introductory pushes in a while. The promotion is yet to set a date for their title fight.
