10. Ivan Koloff

Van Dam actually edges out Ivan Koloff in terms of length of reign, as "The Russian Bear" spent just 21 days with the WWWF Championship in 1971. But this entry isn't about how long Koloff held the belt for, but rather about who he beat for it.

In front of a packed Madison Square Garden crowd, Koloff landed a top rope knee drop on Bruno Sammartino and pinned the Italian Stallion to stunned silence. Sammartino had been champion of the Federation for almost eight years - 2,803 days to be precise - taking on all comers and always coming out on top. To witness him lose to such a despicable heel was a huge shock and this night remains one of the most infamous in wrestling's canon.

Despite ultimately being just another transitional champion, Koloff made his legacy that night in New York. He may never have reached those dizzying heights every again, but sometimes one moment is enough to make or break a title reign and ending the single longest WWE Championship reign of all time has got to count as a pretty big moment.
