The main event of Revolution 2024 saw Sting's emotional farewell to professional wrestling, It is a moment so perfect that it's arguably AEW's finest achievement to date. After so many fun contributions to the company since his arrival at Winter Is Coming 2020, 'The Icon' was due a celebratory sendoff, and that is exactly what happened at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles for Sting's last stand alongside Darby Allin in their tag-team match against The Young Bucks.
Sting's majestic entrance, played to the ring by Metallica's 'Seek & Destroy' and joined by his sons dressed as his Surfer and nWo Wolfpac personas, brought a tidal wave of emotion from his fellow Californians. The match itself was a masterpiece, Matt and Nick Jackson reveling in the opportunity to put Sting in the dirt. It all added to a fantastic finale, in which Sting would emerge victorious via the Scorpion Death Lock, retiring undefeated in AEW and as one half of the Tag Team Champions.
Will Ospreay continued his red-hot year with another superb showing against Konosuke Takeshita, Eddie Kingston forced Bryan Danielson to shake his hand after a second consecutive win over The American Dragon, and Jon Moxley and Claudio Castignoli had an underrated banger of a match against FTR.
