Why AEW Gave Away Redemption Pay-Per-View Main Event On Dynamite (AEW News)

Real reason we got Kenny Omega defeating MJF for the AEW World Title last week.

With AEW running the huge MJF vs. Kenny Omega match last week for Max's AEW World Title, many fans were left questioning whether this was a case of the company rushing their planned Redemption main event to deliver a big TV moment.

Given that Redemption is taking place from Montreal, Quebec's Bell Centre in a couple of weeks, some presumed that the PPV would see Canadian hero Omega getting some redemption on MJF and defeating him for the AEW World Championship, setting in motion Kenny to defend that title against Will Ospreay at All In next month.

So, when it was announced that MJF would put that gold on the line against Kenny Omega on last week's Beach Break edition of Dynamite, and with the stipulation that Kenny could never challenge for the AEW Championship if he came up short, that led to plenty of online chatter of AEW hot-shotting their Redemption main event for TV.

When asked about that topic on the latest SRS Q&A over at Fightful Select, Sean Ross Sapp noted that the belief in AEW was that MJF was the one who pushed for this match to be brought forward. Sapp added that the plan for Omega to defeat MJF for the AEW World Title had been in place for at least five months, and that plan always factored in for Darby Allin to beat MJF for the World Title before losing it back to the Salt of the Earth, with Max then losing it to Kenny.

As for why Omega's big title win took place on an episode of Dynamite, this is simply a case of AEW being keen to deliver major matches on TV, as the promotion makes most of its money through its TV deals.
