Every AEW World Championship Reign Ranked Worst To Best
5. 'Hangman' Adam Page - First Reign
Won: Full Gear (13/11/2021). Previous Champion: Kenny Omega. Length: 197 Days.
Sometimes, the thrill of the chase is better than sitting with the result.
It sucks to put this reign so low, as Hangman (unlike other champions) really did his best to make the company proud. He put in the work, performed in some decent matches and tried to wear the belt with confidence. But, all of this somehow translated into him feeling bland and inconsequential. Yeah, that's not a good look for the supposed top guy.
It's not entirely easy to pinpoint what went wrong here, but one major indicator is how quickly the fire died out after his explosive World Title win. The rise of Adam Page was one of the best stories in AEW history, as fans stuck behind him, with "cowboy sh**" feeling like the new Yes! Movement at times. His explosive rise was so great that once he finally achieved his goal, it felt like the story was over, with that same fire not following him into his reign.
Page has proven that he can hang in the main event, especially in his bouts against Bryan Danielson. But, unfortunately, the sad fact is that he is just one of those guys that's easier to root for when he's climbing, which made his reign quickly forgettable. Here's hoping he one day gets the chance to become the World Champion he has the potential to be.
