Every AEW World Championship Reign Ranked Worst To Best
4. Jon Moxley - Second Reign
Won: AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door (26/06/2022). Previous Champion: Vacant. Length: 59 days as Interim, 11 as Undisputed.
Right, it's time to talk about the guy who has carried AEW on his back; it's time to talk about Jon Moxley! Of course, while he deserves heaps of praise (which will come later), this reign will only feature a few heaps, as opposed to many. Nothing to scoff at, but certainly nothing to fawn over either.
Moxley got his second reign after defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi in a great main event at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door for the vacant World Title. He would become a prime member of the Blackpool Combat Club, and while he didn't have many big feuds during this time, Mox wore the belt with the scrappy, gritty energy fans have come to expect from him.
The issue with this reign was, naturally, the fact that it was mired with the word interim. You knew he was only holding the belt until Punk came back, and this made his status feel temporary. This got even worse after he became the Undisputed World Champion on Dynamite, only to lose it 11 days later at All Out.
The fact that AEW could have a stable World Champion right now if they'd stuck to their guns with Moxley says it all.
