Every Asuka NXT TakeOver Match - Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Vs Ember Moon (Brooklyn 3, 19th August 2017)

Asuka Ember Moon
WWE

Saving the best for last, Asuka assembled an utterly mesmerising display alongside rival Ember Moon in a rematch not only superior to their original but also every other NXT match the pair had been involved in.

Though unknown at the time, it would prove to be Asuka's final title defence on the developmental brand, as she yet again retained her title and undefeated streak despite coming as close to the brink as she ever had. Moon offered up her entire arsenal in a desperate bid to dethrone the titleholder, but just couldn't dethrone the iconic star.

There was a fabulous symmetry to the entire affair. The match took place in the same building where Asuka had observed Bayley and Sasha Banks make history two years earlier, but this time the roles were reversed. 'The Hugger', 'The Boss' and Becky Lynch were all ringside to see the newest star, and potentially their biggest new threat, as she took her NXT bow.

It was a spectacular night for Moon too, having recovered from a summer injury that forced an identical wait for a rematch that Bayley endured in 2016.

History repeated itself in the result too. Asuka just stubbornly refused to lose. She was unable to avoid The Eclipse this time around, but was able to kick out, sending the Brooklyn audience and her challenger into hysterics. Moon's pantomime pupils shone green, but the colour had drained from her gaze. Thwarting an Asuka comeback, she hit a last gasp superkick but the Champion would not surrender her prize.

Clawing victory from the jaws of defeat, the titleholder suckered the challenger in to a cross armbreaker and forced Ember to tap out like all the rest. The match was over, as too was her title reign and unparalleled NXT tenure. Just like Bayley after their own battle in 2016, she left Brooklyn never to return.
