Every Edge Vs Randy Orton PPV Match Ranked From Worst To Best

After nine years out of the game, Edge is back in a WWE ring and on a compelling collision course with former friend/former enemy Randy Orton at WrestleMania 36.

The 11-time World Champions stunning, albeit mostly expected, return from retirement at the Royal Rumble was one of the most genuinely uplifting and exciting returns in company history. His fantastic 23-minute performance into the final four was more than enough to convince anyone that he was here to recapture his lost years.

With Orton by his side, it looked as though we were in store for a nostalgia-fuelled Rated RKO reunion. However, as he always does with such an impeccable heel touch, The Vpier turned on Edge and sowed the seeds for their own bout.

Despite both being at the top of the main event scene for more than a decade at the same time , Edge and Orton actually spent very little time together on pay-per-view. Often running parallel to each other in major story arcs without every really coming together too often.

Across hundreds of PPVs in their time, they only shared the same ring on 14 occasions. Three of those were as Rated RKO on the same team, a further two were Royal Rumble matches (of which I won't count for this list). In nine remaining matches where they were opposing each other, seven were multi-man matches, which means incredibly, they only fought TWICE in one-on-one competition despite being two of the biggest stars of the era.

This match was afflicted by suffering a bad case of misfortune. Plain and simple.

In what was just their second ever pay-per-view singles contest, and first in six years, Orton and Edge were plonked in the middle of a generally underwhelming card while in the midst of a short feud that was yet to find its feet.

While the contents of the match aren't exactly terrible, piecing together a very solid opening ten minutes building towards a strong finish thanks to their their solid chemistry as a tag team, the abrupt end to the bout cost it big time.

Around the aforementioned 10-minute mark, Orton rolled into his trademark coil, setting up for the RKO and banging the mat with his fists. Then disaster struck.

While banging his arms down, as he always had, The Viper sensationally separated his shoulder, immediately pulling up and clutching at his dangling arm. The referee threw up the x symbol and the two rivals were forced to rush the finish. They took each other to the outside where Edge would attempt a spear on Orton who ducked out of harms way. Edge speared the barricade. Both men down. Double count-out result.

Interestingly, despite being a perennial heel for much of his career, Orton was a huge crowd favourite for this match, with the Detroit faithful chanting his name and cheering every little comeback and big move, while jeering Edge at every turn.
