Every Foreign WWE Champion Ranked From Worst To Best
3. Kofi Kingston
Certainly one of the more wholesome entries on the list, Ghanaian-born Kofi Kingston's unlikely rise to the WWE Championship was as unplanned as it was uplifting, surfing a tidal wave of support into an emotionally-charged World Title victory at WrestleMania 35.
As is the case with seemingly most things in the wrestling business, it was entirely unplanned and at the expense of someone else. Kingston's golden run of Gauntlet matches and swell of support wouldn't have even started if not for the misfortune of Mustafa Ali, who was slated for the same string of endurance performances that Kingston enjoyed before being injured at the worst possible time.
A few Gauntlets and an Elimination Chamber performance later, and Kingston was on his way to WrestleMania, where he beat Daniel Bryan for the company's top belt.
For six months, the former Jamaican defended against the likes of Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler, Samoa Joe and Randy Orton as he was finally able to shine in the spotlight many thought had been taken away from him ten years earlier.
His reign would come to an unceremonious end at the hands of Brock Lesnar, but that shouldn't take away from the history he created with the gold around his waist.
