Often, in the case of NXT, less is more.

Considering that traditionally, Takeover main events are singles contests for the NXT Title that have a genuine build behind them, this one came out of leftfield a bit. All it took to make this match was four of NXT’s top contenders making a case for a title shot and the champion Kross requesting he take them all on.

Despite a muddled build, the match was still able to deliver. The men dealt with the odd numbers with complete class, making sure there was never a dull moment. Gargano in particular relished being back in the main event spotlight, making every spot involving him a standout moment in the match. Similarly, Pete Dunne proved once more that he deserves to be in the title scene much more often than sporadic instances.

However, it was Karrion Kross that proved et again that he is no slouch, even when sharing the ring with four of NXT’s biggest stars. The big man was calm, composed and never missed a step, despite a few of his sequences feeling quite choreographed. There is no surprise why the company is so heavily invested in him. Overall, while the five-way wasn’t typical of NXT, it definitely didn’t slouch.
