22. Kevin Owens Vs. Finn Balor – Takeover: Brooklyn

NXT TakeOver Brooklyn IV Tommaso Ciampa Johnny Gargano
WWE

Owens and Balor were a feud worthy enough to take the privilege of main eventing the first-ever venture outside of Full Sail for NXT. The two went all out to deliver and deliver they did, with an excellent juxtaposition to all of their previous affairs. Unlike the traditional wrestling contests that they had gone with the whole feud, they instead went with a straight-up bludgeoning. Fuelled by having his son at ringside for the first time, Owens was driven to deliver his most inspired performance for WWE yet.

Balor took all of this punishment in his stride and dished it right back with vintage Demon Balor intensity. The moment where Balor was able to withstand Owens patented apron Powerbomb arguably brought the fans to their feet more than the top of the ladder Coup De Grace, which is a testament to NXT’s long-term storytelling.

It was a match that finished off what was one of WWE’s best Pay-Per-Views in years. Takeover: Brooklyn went on to be NXT’s WrestleMania, and only seemed to get better every year.
