35. Kevin Owens Vs. Sami Zayn – Takeover: Unstoppable

While the match was another chapter in the bitterly intense rivalry between Owens and Zayn, it was also the only Takeover Main event to end in a no contest.

At least with the original, there was a firm conclusion. The bell never actually rung to end this contest, instead, Samoa Joe made his much-awaited debut and in the ensuing chaos, Owens just tucked his tail between his legs and ran off. This heavily detracted from the match itself, even a repeat of a referee stoppage verdict would have benefited the affair.

The match before this confounding finish, however, was as good as any Owens and Zayn contest. Heavily personal and hard-hitting, but for the most part, simply a rehash of their far superior Takeover: Rival match. Running thirteen minutes exactly, making it the shortest main event in Takeover history, Owens, just like the prior contest, dominated, before a spirited Zayn comeback. Which of course was followed by more Owens domination, resulting in both the refs and doctors intervening.

Not bad by any means, but far from the heights that Takeover soon began to reach.
