33. Tyson Kidd Vs. Adrian Neville – Takeover

The very first Takeover main event was far from the worst.

Enjoyable, yet almost forgotten by many fans, this match was just pure, straight wrestling. No big over the top spots, apart from a couple of high flying dives, the 21-minute affair mostly consisted of wonderfully technical mat wrestling. Kidd got to show off all the wrestling prowess he had learnt being the product of the famous Hart Dungeon training school, while Neville got to prove to audiences that he isn’t just a high flyer, but is also one of the most talented grapplers on any roster that he is placed on.

The two men had instant chemistry and told a simple story very well. Commentator William Regal put it simply, Tyson Kidd was a desperate man who knew that this match was his last chance to make a mark in the WWE. Make that mark he did, as he and Neville proceeded to set a precedent for all future Takeover main events preceding it. Kidd brought out all the stops, applying almost every submission he could think of, even busting out the very rarely seen Dungeon Lock, which surely popped the old school fans. In the end, it wasn’t enough as the always impressive Red Arrow brought an end to the first-ever Takeover.

Many more fantastic main events followed. 32 more, that topped it to be exact.
