There was a time when the elimination matches at Survivor Series weren't called 'traditional elimination matches'. They were just matches. The entire Survivor Series card would be filled with 4 vs. 4 or 5 vs. 5 matches, from the opener to the main event. This allowed WWE to tell plenty of stories and set up a whole host of feuds going into the new year.

It also meant that there were some pretty dire teams, some seriously bizarre combinations of men thrown together to lose and little else. Does it get any weirder than these four blokes? Colonel Mustafa, the former Iron Sheik turned Iraqi sympathizer. The Berzerker, basically Brusier Brody at a fancy dress party. Skinner, an alligator hunter. Rounding out the team was Hercules, a man with big muscles. If that doesn't sound like the greatest dinner party possible, I don't know what does.

You also had Mr. Fuji and General Adnan, a former classmate of Saddam Hussein who famously defeated Andre the Giant in Baghdad, although that could be attributed to Saddam being in the crowd.

This ragtag group of cosplaying mercenaries were swept by an altogether more jovial team, a foursome that consisted of Sgt Slaughter, 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan, Tito Santana and The Texas Tornado. Early '90s WWE was a weird, weird place.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
