It was clear from the very beginning that something was up. Just 40 seconds into the match, Mike Knox walked into some Sweet Chin Music and was eliminated, although the real damage came in the aftermath as Shawn Michaels desperately tried to work out who he had just pinned. Was it funny? Yes, of course it was. Was it the end for Mike Knox? Depressingly, yes.

It all unravelled from there, with each member of Rated RKO being defeated by their rival. Former Intercontinental Champion Johnny Nitro was submitted by CM Punk, and then-Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms was pinned by Matt Hardy. This left Edge and Randy Orton alone with a truly elite team, and they didn't stand a chance. Michaels pinned Edge before Triple H finished it off, hitting Orton with a Pedigree to complete the sweep.

The burial of Knox aside, this was a top-heavy case of the babyfaces getting the better of the heels and little else. Nitro was yet to become John Morrison, a year or two away from true credibility. Helms? He had done more than most to give legitimacy to the Cruiserweight Championship but that doesn't take into account how low it had been in the years prior.

This was simply a case of a strong team being swept by a stronger team. It happens.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
