This match came the night after Starrcade 1999, an event that saw Chris Benoit defend his United States Championship in an open challenge ladder match that was accepted by Jeff Jarrett. Say what you like about good old Double J but the man is a more than acceptable pro wrestler, and the late 1990s saw him with his working boots tightened up.

Benoit was elite-level at the time too, and all of this makes for a decent little ladder match. The fact that it came the night after another ladder match between the two dampens it a little, as all the novelty and freshness of such a bout was sucked out in the process.

Jarrett picks up the win, because of course he does. Benoit would be gone from the company within a few months.
