16. Konnan Gets Stoned (Lucha Underground)

Konnan was never long for the Lucha Underground world. His "death" was used as a major plot twist during the show's first season. On the 36th episode, Mil Muertes and Catrina attacked the former nWo man. They hit him in the head with a stone, then placed him in a casket to symbolically tell the tale of K-Dogg's passing.

How dramatic. Drama was the done thing in LU, to be fair. They didn't shy away from much, and there's plenty more of that to examine in coming entries. By comparison to what they'd come up with next, Konnan's passing was actually quite level-headed. The villains attacked him whilst he was acting as Prince Puma's manager (Puma was played by current AEW star Ricochet), then they had their wicked way with his soul.

Again, this was as melodramatic as fans tuning into the show expected.

Catrina later confirmed during the show's second season that she and her fellow Disciples Of Death had been responsible for killing off Konnan. Ricochet, as Puma, continued wrestling for Lucha Underground right up until the end of the third season. In effect, he was Konnan-less for the remainder of his run, but it's unclear whether or not this was always the plan or just a snap decision from those scripting episodes.

Konnan has since openly discussed how heavily involved he was supposed to be in the writing of LU episodes. Instead, the promotion turned him into more of an on screen character, which he wasn't too thrilled by. That might explain why he only appeared in the first season before vanishing.
