The Attitude Era was all about spamming everything as much as possible, and this was no different. One night after his infamous 'I Quit' match against Mankind at the 1999 Royal Rumble (more on that shortly), The Rock's bravado saw him defending his WWF Championship under the same stipulation against 'The Game', Triple H.

Rocky Maivia and Hunter Hearst Helmsley worked extremely well together and their chemistry was undeniable, but that doesn't quite mask my irritation at the existence of a throwaway 'I Quit' match on free TV.

The finish came when The Corporation threatened to continue harming Chyna unless Hunter quit, something which sort of negated all the work done to build Chyna as a force of nature. Hx3 complied, but it turned out that Chyna was in on it all along. Another Attitude Era swerve it is, then.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
