Every WWE Backlash Main Event Ranked Worst To Best
1. The Rock Vs. Triple H (2000)
Sometimes, everything just clicks.
Yes the closing act of Backlash 2000 was a little silly and anarchic, but with it came one of the purest forms of good versus bad in WWE match history. The premise was effectively simple. The Rock was out to claim the gold from Triple H, and the McMahon family were on side to place every obstacle possible in The Great One's way. Rocky's only hope of victory lay in the prophesied return of Stone Cold Steve Austin, who had been out of action for six months prior.
In this particular story, every character was in their greatest element. Vince was the corporate cheat, his kids were the entitled arseholes, Triple H was the glory-hunting bully, and Rock was the lone warrior hell bent on dismantling the entire faction.
As for Austin himself, his return at The Rock's most perilous moment came with one of the most deafening roars from a WWE crowd, and from commentary too for that matter. Nobody cared that The Rattlesnake was still recovering from surgery, and was therefore not actually capable of wrestling. Umpteen chair shots later, and the house was cleared. Rock took the title and he and Steve cracked some beer and toasted to the belt.
Pure gold.
